Deeply rooted in historical ties, the U.S. first established a consulate in British Honduras in 1847, eventually elevating it to full embassy status on October 29, 1981, following Belize’s independence from the United Kingdom.
Strategically seeking to adapt to the country’s evolving political landscape, the embassy officially relocated from the former capital, Belize City, to a newly constructed compound in the capital city of Belmopan on December 11, 2006. This state-of-the-art facility spans a scenic 10-acre site, consciously designed to integrate seamlessly with the lush, natural beauty of its environment.
Beyond handling international diplomacy, the embassy functions as a multifaceted hub that manages bilateral relations, bilateral trade, and economic investments. It provides critical consular services, including managing visa applications and providing emergency assistance to U.S. citizens traveling or residing in the region.
