We would like to thank the Office of the General Counsel of the Department of the Air Force (SAF/GC) for ordering five 24″ custom mahogany plaques. Four are for their office and one is for Wake Island!

Here is some background on about their office and role. The Office of the General Counsel of the Department of the Air Force (SAF/GC) serves as the chief legal department and chief ethics office for the entire department, including the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Space Force. Led by a civilian leader appointed by the President, the office provides the ultimate, controlling legal decisions for the military branch.
Role and Responsibilities
The office acts like a massive corporation’s legal team. It counsels top leaders—including the Secretary of the Air Force and the Chief of Staff—on complex business and policy challenges. Its core duties span several key areas:
- Acquisition Law: Overseeing multi-billion dollar contracts for weapons, technology, and aircraft.
- Environmental & Real Property Law: Managing millions of acres of land, military bases, and energy programs.
- Fiscal Law: Ensuring tax dollars are spent strictly according to congressional funding rules.
- Ethics Compliance: Directing government transparency and official ethics rules.
General Counsel vs. JAG
While the Judge Advocate General (JAG) handles military courtrooms and criminal justice, the General Counsel’s office handles business operations, international treaties, and policy law. This ensures that global military missions are fully backed by lawful authority.
