It was two years before Japan’s attack on Pearl Harbour dragged the United States into the war. But the US Army Air Corps was looking for a new bomber aircraft. What they were after was a “superbomber”, capable of flying up to 2,000 miles (3,200km) at a time and at altitudes never achieved before.

The aircraft they got would go on to drop the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki and ultimately bring an end to World War Two. It would also pave the way for a civil aviation boom that led to the everyday air travel we have today.

Over the course of Operation Not Forgotten, which ended September 30, the FBI deployed 51 special agents, analysts, and other personnel to nearly a dozen FBI field offices whose responsibilities include vast swaths of Tribal lands—what the federal government calls Indian country. Under federal law, the FBI has primary jurisdiction to investigate major crimes on nearly 200 reservations, like murders, kidnappings, physical and sexual abuse of children, and violent assaults. During the joint operation, the FBI and its partners opened or worked on more than 300 cases, made more than 40 arrests, assisted over 440 victims and their families, and identified or recovered nine child victims. Army Futures Command announced Thursday that soldiers from 1st Battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division, at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, accepted delivery of the XM7 Next Generation Rifle and XM250 Next Generation Automatic Rifle ahead of training in April.

Produced by firearm maker Sig Sauer, the XM7 is intended to replace the M4 carbine in close combat formations, while the XM250 will replace the M249 Squad Automatic Weapon, or SAW. China has allegedly added a fifth force, a “near-space command,” to strengthen its military prowess, the South China Morning Post reported. The newest wing of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) is in the process of “rapid development,” researchers from the National University of Defence Technology said in a paper cited by the SCMP.

Advancements in military warfare have led to the development of new-age weapons that do not characteristically fall into the age-old triage of the army, navy, and air forces.
